After two days the Achaemenid army of the River Lands arrived. Their large numbers hindered them in entering the canyon, and so a "traffic jam" occurred when the Achaemenid army had to wring themselves to the canyon where they were awaited by Neo's army.
At first the Achaemenid men were allowed to enter the canyon, as planned.
But then the churn started turning and Neo's men closed of the canyon
Most of the time the Achaemenid soldiers were killed on the spot. Sometimes they had to be pushed to the exit of the canyon where other men of Neo's army awaited them to finish them off.
The battle lasted for two days. At the end of the second day the bodies at the exit of the canyon where so numerous that those at the side were pushed so hard against the wall that they were looking as if they were standing guard.
At the entrance the view was not that different. Thousands of dead Achaemenid soldiers were lying on the ground. At the end of the conflict soldiers had to crawl over the bodies to be able to fight.
In the end the Achaemenid men of the River Lands had enough. Shocked by the perseverance of Neo's men and the high number of casualties they ignored the orders from their officers and fled.
Seeing this, their king Xšaya-ṛšā also turned around and rushed his horse to get out of the inferno.
Just as Neo predicted the time for Murat had come and he had but one order when the horses stormed out: "Kill! Kill! Kill!"
When later somebody asked what happened to Asterion II people had seen him while he was sitting upright with a breast wound, snot running out his nose and spitting out pieces of his broken luck. A few hours later however his body had disappeared.
