Since Rokhshan travelled with the camp followers she arrived at Babylon a few days after the funeral. She knew that Neo had passed away and that his funeral was over.
When she arrived at the temple with Neo's crypt, she was shocked by the state of the building.
"So this is where they want to hide you from history "
"Do not worry, my love, I won't let the world forget about you. Not now, not ever."
Rokhshan arrived at a hall with a black door, that was hardly visible, as if someone wanted to hide it. She knew that Neo would be there.
"Why did you leave me? Why now? Today should have been such a joyful day. Who will be joyful with me now, now that I am with child. Our child will be in danger even before it is born." "But I will be driven by your strength. I must be strong as of now. And step in your footsteps."
When Rokhshan had wept her last tears she searched for a small corner to change her outfit. No more black. Nobody would shift her aside as the mourning widow.
Outside the crypt, Rokhshan's ladies-in-waiting had gathered to comfort their mistress. "I want only one thing from you.....I want to know who poisoned my husband. Because that is what happened." But nobody responded. "Nobody? Then I will have to look elsewhere."
Her own nephews who formed her personal bodyguard could not help her either.
So Rokhshan went to the bodyguards of Neo, with the same question, but without any answer.
Finally, Rokhshan turned to the wives of Neo's marshals. "I want to know who poisoned my husband. At least one of you has to know. So nobody leaves until I have my answer. And if there has to be blood, there will be blood."
Silence. "OK, let's have it the children's way. I will turn my back to you, and if anyone knows, they can tell me. I will never know who told me." And so Rokhshan turned her back. There was a moment of silence, and then somebody spoke: "It was Hippolyte. He has poisoned Neo on the instructions of Liberty. She has been married to Bernadotte and now they rule as kings."
